Robert D. Walther, 81, of Bellaire passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Bob was born April 2, 1930, the son of Edwin and Zada (Rasch) Walther. Bob worked 37 years at General Motors as a Computer Software Technician before retiring in 1984. Bob served in combat in Korea and was discharged in May of 1953. Bob married Virginia J. Zwingman in Saginaw, Michigan on July 18, 1953. They lived in Flint and Flushing, Michigan for many years before moving to Intermediate Lake in Bellaire where he enjoyed fishing and living on the lake. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. They spent many winters in Arizona and enjoyed visits by his children, grandchildren, and many friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, building, and home improvement. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire. Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia; sons, Steven (Sandra) Walther of Flushing, John Walther of Lincoln City, OR, daughter Cynthia Walther (Jeff Medarac) of New Castle, PA; five grandchildren, Shaina, Alexander, Benjamin, Logan, Jocelyn Joy; sisters, Elaine Dragus of Flint, and Deloris (Tom) Bubin of Kalamazoo; along with many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. Please gather at 10:30 a.m. at the Administration Building in order to proceed to the interment together. Family and friends will gather at Flushing Presbyterian Church, 5010 McKinley Road, Flushing, MI., following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 129 Jefferson Ave SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49503.
