Robert Tollas, DDS

Robert C. Tollas, DDS, 88, formerly of Charlevoix, died Friday, March 25, 2016, at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey. He was born February 14, 1928, in Baroda, Mich. and grew up there. Bob graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Agriculture Education, and taught high school biology in Paw Paw. He received a DDS from University of Michigan in 1960.

Bob served in the US Army from 1947-49.

While at the University of Michigan, he met Fran Hanslovsky whom he married on July 19, 1953. They moved to Charlevoix in 1960, where Bob practiced dentistry until retiring in 1989. Bob and Fran moved to Independence Village in Petoskey in 2010, and Fran preceded him in death on February 17, 2013.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix, and the Church Choir. He was also a member of the SPBSQA, and enjoyed singing in Barber Shop Quartets. Bob loved to golf, and enjoyed fishing and hunting and going to “Highbanks” camp in the UP.

Bob is survived by his children, Daniel A. (Terry) Tollas of Petoskey, David W. (Nadia Begin) Tollas of Arcosanti, Ariz., Debra Ann (Ken) Cormier of Boston, Mass., Dane A. (Lynne) Tollas of Petoskey, Diane M. (Andrew) Cesario of Petoskey; grandchildren, Nina, Jeremy, Grace, Addison, Tristan, Sasha, and Lily; great-granddaughter, Emily; brother, Reverend William Tollas of Evansville, Ind.; sister, Lois (Eldon) Nitz of Baroda. Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur and Vern Tollas of Baroda.

Friends may meet Bob's family at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix from 6-8:00 pm Wednesday, March 30. A memorial service will be 11 am, Thursday, March 31, at the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix, the Reverend Neil Wilson officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
