Robert L. Stowe, 83, of East Jordan, passed away on August 2, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.
Bob was born on March 31, 1934, in Petoskey, the son of LeRoy and Lena (Harmon) Stow.
Bob was a resident of the Petoskey and Charlevoix County area his entire life. As a young man, he took over the family dairy farm on Atkins Rd. in Petoskey then in 1968 he sold the farm to purchase a dairy farm in Ironton where he farmed until 1978. After that he purchased the Rainbow Bar in East Jordan and ran it for several years.
Bob was active in the area serving on the Charlevoix County Road Commission as Chairman and Board member, the Eveline Township Zoning Board and was president and board member many years for the Emmet/Charlevoix County Fair.
He played basketball for Petoskey High School where he is remembered as making the winning shot from half Court to win a regional championship in the early 50’s.
On July 6, 1957, in Petoskey, he married Jean M. Allison who survives. Also surviving are two children, Jim (Amy) Stowe of Macomb Twp., MI, Barb Carpenter (Ralph Hines) of Central Lake, a sister Marjorie Brown of Gladwin, three grandchildren, Alexis Carpenter, Bryce and Riley Stowe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.
No services are planned at this time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmet/Charlevoix County Fair.
