Robert J. Sterrett, 81, of Boyne City, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Georgia House in Charlevoix. He was born April 25, 1934, in Detroit, to Clyde and Johanna (VanIntersum) Sterrett. Robert graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in Detroit, and attended the Detroit College of Applied Science. He was a pioneer in automation engineering, and traveled world to intoduce automation systems to several countries. He was employed by Systemation, Inc., and Pico – both in the Detroit area. Robert was Vice President and General Manager of Wilson Automation in Warren at the time of his retirement.
On October 3, 1958, he married Donna Louise Goad in Detroit. They moved to the Boyne area from Troy in 1975. Robert loved to golf, ski, play tennis, and boat. He played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Browns for five years. His favorite job was being a Ranger at Boyne Mountain. He was a member of the Elks and Eagles Clubs, the Detroit Athletic Club, the Clinton River Ski Club, and a founding member of the Boyne City Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Boyne City; sons, Scott R. Sterrett of Salt Lake City, UT, Todd M. (Nicole) Sterrett of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Sage, Jessica, Libby, Phillip, Patrick, Garrison; brothers, Roger (Janet) Sterrett, Chuck (Betty) Sterrett all of Utica; sisters, Doris Feldmann of Mt. Clemens, Joan Sterrett of Battle Creek. Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde.
A private service will take place.
