Robert P. Scarborough, 79 of Bellaire died peacefully, surrounded by family, Monday November 21, 2011 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan. Bob was born Aug 6, 1932 in Redford, Michigan, the oldest of five children to Evertte and Mary (Smith) Scarborough. Bob graduated from Redford Union High School in 1951. He joined the Army in 1952 and trained as an anti-aircraft artilleryman in Ft. Hood Texas. He was stationed in Tokyo, Japan in 1953 and served in Seoul, Korea until 1954. On Aug 22, 1981, Bob married Dorothy VanHulle and together share 11 children; Lesa McAllister of Wetmore, Brian Scarborough of Bellaire, Robbie (Jeff) LaRose of Canton, Glenn Scarborough of New Boston, Kathleen (David) Juchartz of Bellville, Steve (Michelle) Scarborough of Romulus, David (Debbie) VanHulle of Kingsley, Robert (Diane) VanHulle of Livonia, Michael (Kim) VanHulle of Canton, Cathy (Al) Odom of Bellaire, Christopher VanHulle of Clinton Twp., 27 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. In 1983 they moved to Bellaire where they owned and operated the Riverside Marina for 10 years. Bob loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed playing games, (At age 7 he was the checker champion of the Redford Township Midget Club) bowling, hunting and camping. Bob was a member of the Bellaire Village Council. He was a "Santa" for the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce, a bus driver for Bellaire schools and was a member of American Legion Post 247. Bob is also survived by his brother Donald Scarborough of Black River, Sister Joan Hopper of Humboldt Arizona, sister-in-law June Scarborough of Black River, sister-in-law Delores Brown of Lake Orion and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents, his brother Richard, his sister Joyce McKee and son-in-law John McAllister. Funeral services will be held Sat. Nov. 26, at Eleven a.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. The family will receive friends Fri. Nov. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. also at the funeral home.
