Robert Russell Plichta, 93 of Petoskey and formerly of Bellaire and Farmington Hills, died peacefully, Sat. Nov. 9, 2013 during his morning nap. He was born Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1919 in Detroit the son of Adolph and Helen Plichta. He had one brother, Harold who preceded him in death and one sister Shirley (Arthur) Brunner of Royal Oak who survives. Robert was a confirmed member of the Lutheran Church, a graduate of Detroit Public Schools, an American Veteran of WWII and a retiree of Fisher Body/General Motors. He was also a loving husband to his wonderful dance partner and fellow baseball lover M. Ella Wigton whom he married March 18, 1945 and who preceded him in death Oct. 2012. Surviving Robert are his daughter Laura (Russell) Raiff, Elkhart, IN, their 2 sons, Peter and Charles, and 3 grandchildren, his son John (Nancy) Pllichta of Petoskey, their 4 children Amy, Julie, Daniel and Kevin and 8 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wed. Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. The family will receive friends and light refreshments will be served from 4 p.m. until the time service. Interment with Military Honors will take place Thurs. Nov. 14, at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park, Livonia. Memorial contributions can be made to Hope Lutheran Church of Bellaire or the Alzheimer's Association.
