Robert Lessard

Robert (Bob) G. Lessard, 91, of Bellaire, passed away on April 10th at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Bob was born May 19th, 1923 in Bellaire to Roland and Sarah (Berg) Lessard. He grew up on the family farm on Steiner Road, attended Clam Lake School and graduated from Bellaire High School in 1941. Following graduation he worked at the Packard Motor Company, enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served with the 318th Fighter Squadron as a Staff Sergeant in the Pacific theater. Upon discharge in November 1945 he returned to Bellaire, marrying Marjorie Baatz on June 20th 1947. Bob and Marjorie met as pen pals while Bob served in WWII. After several years working at electronic repair, excavating, and well drilling, including several years in California working for Hughes Aircraft Company, Bob in 1960 reestablished his excavating business in Bellaire, working it until several strokes required his residence in Meadow Brook in 2012. Many of the boulders in yards and entrance roads in the Bellaire area were delivered by Bob to his many friends. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Anndy (Lee) Whipple of Bellaire and Betty (Wandell) Carlton of Union, Kentucky, three grand children, Dr. Michelle (Mark) Kundmueller, Robin (Stephany) Whipple, Michael Carlton, three great grandchildren, Matthew, Margaret, and Caroline Kundmueller, five siblings, Marjorie (Dick) Ruppenthal, Pepper (Jim) Van Houten, Jo Parker, Suzie (Dolph) Ottgen, Cathie (Norman) McAtee, sister-in-law Ellie Lessard, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lucille, her husband Mark and son Tom Ferstle, and brother Chuck Lessard. A Celebration of Life will be held later in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Meadow Brook Tuition Reimbursement Program, Bellaire Public Library, Grass River Natural Area, or Bellaire Senior Center. Arrangements have been handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
