Richard (Dick) Tillen, 86, of Charlevoix, passed away September 22, 2016.
He was born November 14, 1929, the son of John M. Tillen of Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada and Francis B. Sovereen of Detroit, Michigan.
He graduated from Dearborn High School (Michigan) in 1947, and from Eastern Michigan University with a business degree. Richard served in the army and was stationed in Japan in the latter part of the Korean war.
He made his home in Charlevoix, Mich. where he retired as Director of Social Services for Charlevoix County. He was active in the Charlevoix Lions Club, enjoyed sailing, playing golf, and has traveled to all states except Hawaii and to all the Canadian Provence's.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert, and son, William.
Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years Catherine; sons, Jack of Lakewood, Wash., and Robert (Dawn) of Evansville, Ind.; grandchildren, Diane, Jonathan, Mickey, Jessica; and nine great-grandchildren.
Family suggests memorial contributions to the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix, Mich.
His family came together privately to remember his life.
