Richard Lee Smith 84 of Elk Rapids, died Friday, August 30, 2019 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.  He was born June 14, 1935 in Lansing the son of Ford and Irene (Walkington) Smith.

Richard was a long time member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids.  He was on the Central Lake School Board, a volunteer for the Eastport Fire Department, member of the Central Lake Sports Boosters and a Boy Scout Leader in Lansing. Richard and his wife also enjoyed square dancing and traveling.  Richard retired from Century Sun in Traverse City.

Surviving is his wife of 64 years, LaCorda (Youngs) Smith.  Also surviving are his children Ron (Julie) Smith of Central Lake, Don Smith of Traverse City, Doug (Cindy) Smith of Fenton, Lisa (Alvin) Thomas of South Carolina, his sisters Audrey (Carmen) Deatsman and Janet McKimmy, his grandchildren Stacy (Jim), Melissa, Tracy (Adam), Candace, Erik (Kelly), Nick, Steven, Brandon, Chad, Dustin, great grandchildren Jeffrey (Sarah), Rebecca (Aaron), Kelsey, Gavin, Preston, Lydia, Ezra, Micah, Chloe, Selah, Nyilee, Diamond, Kolton, Keegan, his great great granddaughter Piper and many nieces and nephews.  Preceding him in death were his parents, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, and grandson Damien Smith.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7th at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids with Rev Jim Porter officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service.  The family will also receive friends Friday, September 6th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
