Richard Schorfhaar

Richard G. Schorfhaar, 69, of Bellaire, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 8, 1942 in Greenbush, Michigan, the son of Henry and Helen Schorfhaar. Richard loved fishing, traveling, restoring wooden boats and kayaking with his special dog Toorie on the bow. Most of all, his pride and joy were his grandchildren. On June 22, 1963, in Oscoda, Michigan he married his high school sweetheart, Barrie "Sue" Hawkins. Also surviving are two children, Barry (Bethany) Schorfhaar of Northbend, WA., and Jonna (Douglas) Brown of Acme, MI; four grandchildren, Bridget, Henry, Lily and Seth; siblings, Alan (MaryAnn) Schorfhaar of Coldwater, MI., Don (Susan) Schorfhaar of Cheboygan, MI., Ernie Schorfhaar of Mikado, MI., and Jan (Jerry) Schorfhaar-Garl of Ocala, FL; and sister-in-law, Sandra Schorfhaar of Oscoda, MI; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11am at Church in the Hills with Pastor Andrew Pomerville officiating. The family will receive friends also on Friday beginning at 9:30am until the time of services.
