Richard W. Sayward, 86, of Charlevoix, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016, at his home. He was born August 14, 1930, in Flint to Wallace and Lulu (Vernon) Sayward.
He served in the US Army from 1947-51, during the Berlin Airlift, (1948-49).
Dick graduated from General Motors Institute with a Master's in Engineering. He worked as a Systems Analyst for General Motors. He then went to work for Westinghouse for fifteen years before moving to Charlevoix in 1978. In Charlevoix, Dick went into business with Don and Walt Hufford at Hufford Industries, and later worked for Don Hufford at CPI Products, Inc.
Dick was a member of Charlevoix Lodge #282, F&AM, and the Saladin Shrine. He was a private pilot, and enjoyed Corvettes and motorcycles.
In 1953, Dick married Pamela Gibbs, and she preceded him in death on January 25, 1990. Dick later married Dianne Penfold in Charlevoix on October 19, 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne; children, David (Dawn) Sayward of East Jordan, Terri (Brian) Gallagher of Pickerington, Ohio, McKenzie Sayward, and Madison Sayward both of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Daniel, Stewart, Elizabeth, Dana, Destiny, Rebecca, Jay, Jr., Sarah; great-granddaughter, Evelyn; sister, Gerry Ducharme-Walton of Naples, Fla.; many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his daughter, Beth, and son, Jay
Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Wednesday, November 16, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, where a Masonic Memorial Service will begin at 7pm. Burial with Military Honors will take place at 1pm, Thursday, November 17, at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
