Ramona Gates

Ramona Dawn Gates, 69, of Elmira, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 26 at home. Ramona was born May 26, 1955 in Pontiac, MI to James and Grace (Williams) McGinnis. 

Ramona was a people person with a great personality. She loved animals and enjoyed having pets and hunting. In her younger years she liked going to the casino, driving through the Jordan, and shopping at resale shops. 

On June 17, 2000 in Mancelona, Ramona married Dale Gates who survives. Also surviving are four children, Isaac (Barb) Smith of Gaylord, Ernie Smith of Alba, Noah Smith of Mancelona, and Neoma (T.J) Edwards of East Jordan, a sister Nancy Landers of Traverse City, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, 3 brothers, and her grandson Cadean Bode.  

A funeral service will be held Friday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mancelona Free Methodist Church. Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Pastors Jerry and Ellen Cook will officiate. 

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona.
