Bellaire lost one of it's own on January 6 with the sudden passing of Quinton Dale White, Jr, 74, who died at home peacefully in his sleep. He was born July 20, 1939 to Quinton Dale White Sr. and Bonita Belle (Baughman) White at his Grandma Baughman's home in Harbor Springs, MI. He grew up on the family farm in Hayes Township and after graduating from Petoskey High School, he attended Michigan State University. He served in the ROTC receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. On November 4, 1961 he married Judy VanTreese. They moved their family from Petoskey to Bellaire in 1967 when Quint started as manager of PetGas Distributing. He then opened Northern Heating and Refrigeration and was a highly respected business owner for over 47 years, retiring in 2013. Quint, also known as Bud, served his community with various activities. He was a volunteer firefighter for over 10 years and then continued serving on the board; 40 years as a member of the Bellaire Lions Club; member of the Bellaire Conservation Club; sponsor & captain/pitcher of Northern Heating's Softball team during 1970's through 1980's; and sponsored and captained his bowling team from the 70's through 2011. He loved aviation and held a PPL for 20 some years. He always looked forward to the annual deer hunting trip with his long-time friend/chosen brother, Richard Sovereign of Sparta, MI. He was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and enjoyed playing cards, camping, fishing and being with family. Quint is preceded in death by both parents. Quint is survived by his wife Judy (VanTreese) White, daughters Kelly (James) Hoffman of South Haven, MI, Jerri White of Bellaire, MI, Susan(Steve) Morrison of Bellaire, MI, and son Quinton Dale III (Holly) White of Traverse City, MI. He had 7 grandkids: Sean (Aryon), Kaitlyn, James, Anthony, Jacob, Nicholas, and Noah; step-grandchildren Natalie and Shane; great-grandchildren: Starly, Sydney, Braden, Sawyer, Owen, and Adelyn. Quint is also survived by sisters Quinella (John Lashmit) Potter of Charlevoix, MI, Irene (Raymond) Speltz and Glenda (Terry ) Reinhardt, both of Boyne City, MI. Quint's surviving in-laws include: Jackie (Keith) Carson, of Boyne Falls, MI, Jack (Cathy) VanTreese, of Petoskey, MI, Jerry (Lynn) VanTreese, of Petoskey, MI, Jim (Kathy) VanTreese, of Fremont, MI, Jeff VanTreese, of Holland, MI, and Janice Justis, of Petoskey, MI. Cremation is being arranged by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. All family and friends are invited to celebrate Quinton's life and share memories on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Bellaire Senior Center between 2-4pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bellaire High School Youth Bowling Club, Bellaire Lion's Club and/or Bellaire Conservation Club.
