On January 14, 2023, Phyllis Darlene Konieczny, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at the age of 84. She was born on August 10, 1938, in Banks Township, the daughter of Wilbert and Marion Nicola.
She stayed in the area until after World War 2, when the family relocated to Westland. Phyllis grew up and went to school in Westland, graduating with honors at Wayne Memorial Highschool in 1956. Phyllis then completed her associates degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse in the Detroit area for approximately 40 years. In 1966 Phyllis married Ted Konieczny, her loving husband of 56 years. They would raise their children in Washington Township, and after retirement would return to their beloved Northern Michigan.
Phyllis and Ted loved to be in Northern Michigan. They would drive around and look for birds, flowers, deer, or a new restaurant to try. They would always drop in on friends and family on their trips. She often gave away their canned peaches and pickles to people for them to enjoy, and loved to have family and friends come over for picnics. They would spend the evening talking about old times. She enjoyed gardening and attending family reunions held every year in Eastport. She was a loving person who would always lend a hand when needed.
She is survived by her loving husband Ted, children, Jennifer (Stuart) Salter, Ted (Sara) Konieczny, grandchildren, Abby, Jacob, and Elizabeth.
A reunion of those who knew and loved Phyllis will be planned for the summer of 2023.
