Phyllis Charlton

Our beloved co-worker and friend, Phyllis G. Charlton, 83, of Traverse City, MI passed away Friday January 15, 2021. She is survived by “Her Girls;” Amy Lare, Kathy Martinson, Kim Proux, and Katherine Pattinson.

Phyllis met “Her Girls” through her place of employment while working as a caregiver taking care of others. This was a true calling for Phyllis. Her considerations were always of her patient’s best interest first and foremost. Some patients would be skeptical seeing an 80 plus year old woman at the door to care for them, Phyllis walked right in and had the skeptics won over by the end of the shift.

Phyllis lived with Amy Lare, Kathy Martinson and Amy’s daughters Olivia and Madison during the last year of her life. She had her own Private Duty nurse Kim Proux, she called her Damn Nurse and a good friend in Katherine Pattinson. The last year of Phyllis’s life she was able to experience so many of life’s little pleasures; she lived in a beautiful space surrounded by all of her treasures, Amy and Kathy prepared wonderful meals and were always surprised at how much Phyllis could eat! Holiday’s were very special and focused on Phyllis. Phyllis was always included in outings: boat rides, bowling, casinos (always a favorite activity of Phyllis’s), etc. as well as in home activities; game nights, parties, and movies, etc. Phyllis’s girls shall miss her dearly.

Phyllis’s girls would like to thank Hospice of Michigan and their wonderful nursing and caregiver staff. A very special thank you to Nurse Beth who has a kind and compassionate soul when it comes to both patients and their families. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, January 21st from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  A luncheon will be provided following at the home of Kim Proux 2973 Cedarwood Ln. Traverse City, MI.
