Phillip A. LaVanway Sr., 62, of Ellsworth died Friday, November 1, 2013 at his home.
He was born June 18, 1951 in Bellaire to Edwin and Mildred (Tobey) LaVanway.
On January 28, 1983 he married Caroline Gross in Bellaire, and they made their home in Ellsworth.
Mr. LaVanway was employed at Harbor Industries in Charlevoix for many years and was also engaged in logging and farming. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife Caroline; children Brian LaVanway of Hendersonville, N.C., Phillip LaVanway Jr. and Bradley LaVanway both of Ellsworth, and Joni LaVanway of Hendersonville, N.C.; six grandchildren including grandson Phillip Boynton who made his home with Phillip and Caroline; sisters Helen (James) Price of Lowell, Avis Steil of Muskegon and Leonard (Alice) LaVanway of Bellaire; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Sharon Kozlowski and brothers David LaVanway, Alfred LaVanway, Gerald LaVanway, and Earnest LaVanway.
Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Bible Baptist Church in Central Lake with the Rev. Russell G. Tharp officiating. Burial will be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
