Peter Pace

Charlevoix, Michigan – A kind gracious gentle soul has left us.  Peter William Pace passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022.

Peter was born on July 4, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Lawrence Chester Pace and Ruth Valentine (Uren) Pace.  Peter was a high school graduate of Memphis University School and Michigan State University and soon after moved to Charlevoix, Michigan to start a family and enjoy all that Charlevoix has to offer.  Peter worked for La Blance Insurance and then owned and operated The Grey Gables Inn for many years.  Through his retirement years, Peter worked at Charlevoix Floral where he was still able to spread joy by delivering flowers.  He was a devoted member to the community of Charlevoix.  He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and the Elks Club.  Peter enjoyed his morning coffee at The Town House where he could hang with friends and do his crosswords.

Is it possible for a man to live 79 years on this planet having made only friends and no enemies?  Peter did just that. Charlevoix lost a good one.  He was a wonderful dad and a loyal friend with a big heart and a depth of character that was an inspiration to all who knew him.  He will be sorely missed.

Peter is survived by the love of his life Sharon ‘Wit’ Witucki, his three favorite daughters Christie Jensen, Noni Pace and Lauren Rundell, his sister Sara ‘Sally’ Gingras, his sons-in-law Thor Jensen and Blair Rundell and eight grandchildren John and Sara Jensen, Robby, Alex and Doug Morgridge, Piper, Ryan and Lindsey Rundell, and great grandson Sawyer Witthoeft, brother-in-law Dr. Paul Gingras, stepmother Rose Mary Pace and former wife Diane Jerome.

The family is eternally grateful for the compassionate care of Dr. Catherine Wonski and staff at Charlevoix Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Peter to the Peter Pace Scholarship Endowment to benefit Charlevoix students through the Charlevoix County Community Foundation.  Mailing address: PO Box 718, East Jordan, MI 49727.  www.c3f.org/scholarships
