Paul Perry Smith, 94, of Charlevoix, died October 21, 2015, at Charlevoix Area Hospital. He was born
December 16, 1920, in Charlevoix, to Perry and Emily Ruth (Gatliff) Smith. He graduated from
Charlevoix High School in 1938, and served in the United States Army during WWII.
On October 17, 1942, Perry married Billie E. Meyer in Charlevoix.
He worked for the United States Post Office in Charlevoix for 25 years.
Perry was was an avid golfer, serving as the official scorekeeper for the Michigan Amateur
for over 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Leslie T. Shapton Post #226,
and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charlevoix.
Perry is survived by his son, Perry W. (Sharon) Smith of Spokane, Wash.;
daughters, Colleen M. (Joel) Richards of Hill City, Minn.,
Leigh Ann Lovell of Carp Lake, and Connie (Ralph) Doan of Charlevoix;
nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren;
and special friend, Eileen Edwards.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie E., and sister, Mary.
Memorial service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, October 24, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charlevoix.
The Reverend John Paul Bashe will officiate.
Gifts made in Perry's memory may be directed to the Charlevoix Area Hospital.
