Paul Jolliffe

Paul Andrew Jolliffe, 54, of Charlevoix, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Boulder Park Terrace in Charlevoix with his family at his side as he left his earthly body and ascended to heaven. He was born on December 3, 1968, in Kalamazoo, the son of Robert and Noreen (Essenberg) Jolliffe.

Paul delighted in taking care of animals, particularly Callie, his huskie. He took great pleasure in working with people and held a variety of jobs including working at KinderCare in Kalamazoo as an assistant childcare worker. After moving to Charlevoix, he continued to work at K-Mart and Glen’s Market, and also provided service to the community through Bergmann Center where he was known to wash windows at the Courthouse, became an official paper shredder, and provided a big smile to everyone he met.

Paul graduated July 1994 from Kalamazoo Public School system special education program. If you look at his yearbooks from Kalamazoo Central High School, you will find that he went to school with Derek Jeters! He also attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College with his friend Cynthia where they audited a music appreciation course and received a 4.0 in an exercise class.

Paul loved music and began taking piano lessons at the age of 15 years and continued through his 40’s where he performed at several churches and frequently was a part of the worship service at Community Reformed Church. During high school he competed at a high school talent show and performed for the Michigan Music High School Association representatives.

Paul participated in Special Olympics at both local and state levels for many years. Paul was proficient in all 4 swimming events, winning medals at every level.

Paul is survived by his loving and dedicated parents Bob and Noreen Jolliffe, his siblings Barb (Paul) VanderWeele, LeeAnn (Terry) Patterson, Bob and Peggy Jolliffe, Nancy (David) Russell, Matt Jolliffe, and biological siblings Emily, Martha and Peter. Paul was a wonderful uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Community Reformed Church, Charlevoix with visitation at 11:00am and services at 12 noon. Private family burial will take place at Norwood Cemetery at a later time.

The family wishes to thank Boulder Park Terrace for the exceptional care of their family member over the past 5 years. While it was difficult to have him in at Boulder Park the family rested easily knowing that Paul was loved by those who cared for him.

Donations in memory of Paul may be made to Boulder Park Terrace, Hospice of Michigan and Front Porch Café of Ellsworth.

Arrangements are in the care of the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
