Patricia Pence

     Patricia A. Pence, 86, of Charlevoix, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the South Baldwin Medical Center in Foley, AL. Pat’s husband of 68 years, Tom, and their four daughters were by her side.  She will be remembered as a loving and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and as dear and devoted friend to many.

   Pat was born on April 12, 1938, in Grand Blanc, MI, the daughter of Charles and Lavena (Lintz) Alden.

   She loved spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren, playing volleyball at Depot Beach and the Charlevoix Venetian Festival/Pence Family Reunion/Stone Soup Party. Camping and playing softball were also some of her favorite pastimes.  She was a meticulous homemaker, gracious hostess and always welcomed family and friends.

  Pat worked at the Argonne Supper Club as a waitress for many years and then as a bank teller at the Charlevoix County State Bank. Pat was active with the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and held several offices including that of chapter president. She earned the Founder’s Award for her contributions to the chapter. While wintering in Gulf Shores, AL, she volunteered at the South Baldwin Community Theater for many years, where she was known as the “Cookie Lady” for the thousands of cookies she baked for intermission time at the theater. 

   On June 18, 1956, in Ripley, NY, she married Thomas Pence who survives.  Also surviving are 4 daughters, Carole (Jeff) Rounds of Alto, MI, Cheryl (Ruth Ann Joslin) Pence of Gladwin, MI, Janet Handy (Jon Simon) of Petoskey, Jacquelyn (Tony) Rau of Boyne City, 8 grandchildren, Keith, Nicholas, Christina, Brian, Elizabeth, Kristin, Nathanial and Elliott and 5 great-grandchildren, Ahna, Kailyn, Madilyn, Madolin and Lola.

   She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Chuck and Gary Alden and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes on Saturday May 4, 2024 with visitation from 11 -1 PM.

Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix.
