On October 7, 1950, Opal married Perry Vern Mills of Bellaire in Monroe, LA. After moving to Bellaire, they joined the Community Methodist Church and became active members who were involved in many activities. Opal considered this to be an important part of her life. She was also a member of the Ladies' Literary Club, the Bellaire Library Board, the Meadowbrook Ladies' Auxiliary, and a school board member for the Bellaire Public Schools. Her warm personality and winsome smile made her a friend too many. Perry and opal were the owners and operators of three redi-mix plants, Mills Concrete, located in Bellaire, Kalkaska, and Mancelona with Opal managing the secretarial responsibilities of the Bellaire office for many years. In 1980 the plants were sold and Opal and Perry moved to Escondido, CA, where Perry ran a successful real estate business, Meadows Real Estate, in Hidden Meadows, and Opal continued her enjoyment of golf as a member of the Meadow Lake Country Club Women's Golf League. Opal is survived by her two sons, Kurt (Tove' Sondergaard) of Phoenix, AZ, and Kris (Margery) Mills of Cedarville, MI, three step-grandchildren, Heather, Daniel, and Jennifer, and five great grandchildren in addition to many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband Perry on September 25, 2011, her sister Faye Frazen, Riverside CA, and her parents Sydney and Maude Curry. Upon her request, cremation has taken place and interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire.
