Norman Knight

Norman E. Knight, 80, of Rapid City, died Fri. Apr. 22, 2011 after a brief battle with lung cancer. He was born July 31, 1930, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Edward and Wilma (Haywood) Knight. Norman worked for many years at GM Flint, as a supervisor. He was an accomplished musician on the guitar, harmonica and banjo and enjoyed to play for others. He was a member of the Flint Banjo Club and after moving to Rapid City in 1987 he joined the Fife Lake Jam Session and played often at the Bellaire Senior Center and Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Norman also enjoyed photography and motorcycles. On June 28, 1952, in Flint, he married Joan Thomas who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his parents and his son Alan in 2010. He is survived by his son Brad Knight of Tuscon, AZ, his daughter in law Susan Knight of Central Lake, grandchildren Brian (Kelly) Knight, Stacy (Peter) Belanger, Rae Knight and Kyle Knight, great grandchildren Dylan and Jacalyn Knight and Ella Belanger, brother James Knight of Beaverton, sister Mary Alice (Burt) Leich of Rhode Island, stepsister Maxine Natalia of Florida and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his very special friend and companion Eunice Catrell. Memorial services will be held Sat. Apr. 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
