Nelson L. Kirby, 100, of Central Lake, passed away on September 30, 2017 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.
He was born on January 5, 1917, in Central Lake Township, the son of Richard and Ethel (Empey) Kirby.
Nels was employed for General Motors for 38 years, was a Scout Master for Boy Scouts, an avid Detroit Tigers Fan, no matter if they won or lost. He also loved to golf. He and his brother Lloyd were instrumental in helping to develop the back 9 of the Antrim Dells Golf Course.
He was a life member of the Central Lake Lions Club and long time member of the Central Lake First Congregational Church.
Nels is survived by three children, Gail Kirby of Central Lake, Linda (Gary) Best of Davison, MI, Ray (Carol) Kirby of Lake Ann, MI, 6 grandchildren, Debbie (Mike) Ewald, Greg (Lynn) Kirby, Dawn (Paul) Beauchamp, Rod (Heidi) Kirby, Eric Fant, Mike (Kelly) Fant, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fern, a great-grandson Logan Fant, two brothers, Lloyd and Jack Kirby and a sister Beatrice Edwards.
Memorial services will take place on Friday, October 6, 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Central Lake. Pastor Gary Bekkering will officiate.
Interment will be in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church Parish Nurse Program.
Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
