Nancy Ann Mannausa

Nancy Ann Mannausa was born on June 8, 1932. She was born and raised in Ecorse, and throughout her life lived in Chicago, Trenton and Woodhaven, and settled in Elk Rapids after retiring from teaching. Nancy took great pride in the village of Elk Rapids and was regularly involved with her church, Sacred Heart. She actively supported local businesses and frequently visited the Elk Rapids District Library. One of her favorite ways to share stories with her friends and family was while sitting outside on the back deck of her lakefront home while taking in the beautiful sunsets. Nancy was deeply appreciative of the natural beauty she got to experience each day in her home, which was truly her sanctuary.

Nancy was a member of the Adrian Dominican Sisters from 1950 until 1968. She cherished her time at the convent and continued to support her Sisters by keeping in touch, praying for them, and sending donations. Nancy received a Bachelor of Arts in 1957 from Siena Heights University and later got her Masters from DePaul University in 1966. She also earned a Specialist in Education degree from Eastern Michigan University. She began her teaching career as an Adrian Dominican and continued to teach in public schools until her retirement, Her specialization was American History, but she would teach whatever subject there was a need for, and all grade levels. Nancy had a passion for not only advancing herself through higher education, but by helping those around her reach their full potential. She obtained licenses in Real Estate and Insurance and had her own business selling investment annuities to fellow teachers and others. She also bought and sold Real Estate and built a few homes in the Elk Rapids area. She never stopped learning about the stock market and investing well into her 80’s.

Nancy had a compassionate heart and loved getting to know people of all backgrounds and walks of life. She enjoyed traveling and invested her time teaching her great nephews and nieces about other cultures and cities by taking them on trips during the summer months. It was evident by all who knew her, that she put God and her family first in all that she committed herself to.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Nancy is survived by her close relatives: Her sister-in-law, Carol Mannausa, nephews Bob (Judi) Mannausa, Thomas Mannausa, and Terry Coyle, niece, Nancy Coyle, and great nieces and nephews Bobby (Emily) Mannausa, Beth (Chris) Corcoran, Kayla (Terry) Kruger, Kimberly Mannausa, Danielle (Artie) Laflamme, Kate Mannausa, and Matthew Mannausa.
