Nadja Nedimyer

Nadja Ursula Nedimyer, beloved wife and mother went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 6th, 2010, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Warsaw, Poland on July 8, 1921 into a privileged family, Nadja's life drastically changed when at age 21 she was taken as a prisoner of war by the German Army. Forced to practice her nursing skills on the front lines of the battlefields of WW2 she was an unwilling participant from 1942 until the American troops liberated Europe in 1945. While this horrific experience would destroy millions, through sheer strength of will and perseverance, Nadja became a survivor. She met her husband, John Nedimyer, who was a Master Sergeant in the US Army, in 1945 in Germany. Their fairytale courtship and romance was culminated by their marriage in 1946 in Blumenthal, Germany. A year later they returned to Flinton, PA, to begin their 63 year long adventure together, which began with the running of the Nedimyer family farm. She enjoyed cooking and housekeeping for the family and the farm hands until 1956 when John and Nadja moved to Broomall, PA. In 1960 they were blessed with the arrival of their adopted baby girl, Lynn Marie. In addition to imparting skills of cooking and sewing, Lynn credits her mother for instilling her with the gifts of a strong work ethic, perserverance, commitment to family, religious values and the insight to always be kind and thoughtful to others. Nadja was employed as a private duty nurse in Philadelphia at Hanneman Hospital. After the birth of her daughter she worked as a home health aide and nanny until her retirement in 1999. The families that she worked for came to adore her so much that they kept in touch with her up until her passing. She also volunteered for the Mended Hearts Association where she counseled open heart patients. An avid photographer, Nadja served as the family historian, documenting the lives of those she loved. She could always be found behind her camera. A dedicated wife, Nadja became a gourmet cook and consumate hostess, an indispensible support and asset to her husband and his business associates. In 1976 she and her husband John purchased a home on Torch Lake, MI, where the family spent many glorious summers boating, skiing, entertaining and enjoying sunsets on the deck. Her favorite place to be was in the kitchen creating countless meals for family and friends. Upon retirement she and John moved to Vero Beach Florida where she was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church. They enjoyed visiting family and friends and traveling to exotic places like Africa, Australia, New Zealand and many others. Nadja is survived by her devoted husband John, daughter Lynn Rosa of California, grandson Daniel Rosa of Portland, Oregon, granddaughter Meghan Mogck of Denver, Colorado, and 13 nieces and nephews. Services will take place at a later date in Vero Beach, Fla. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association. Please share thoughts and memories with Nadja's family at their online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Nadja's faith in the Lord was a guiding light in her life, as is reflected in her favorite poem;

FOOTPRINTS

One night a man had a dream. He Dreamed he was walking along the beach With the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes From his life. For each scene, he noticed two Sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging To him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed Before him, he looked back at the foot- Prints in the sand. He noticed that many Times along the path of his life there was Only one set of footprints. He also noticed That it happened at the very lowest and Saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he Questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, You said that once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I have Noticed that during the most troublesome Times in my life, there is only one set of foot- Prints. I don't understand why when I Needed you most you would leave me." The Lord replied, " My son, My precious Child, I love you, and I would never leave You. During your times of trial and suffering, When you see only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."
