Miner "Jim" Veenstra

Miner “Jim” Veenstra, 86, of Charlevoix and formerly of Atwood, passed away on February 4, 2022 at Hiland Cottage. Jim was born January 27, 1936, the son of Jacob and Engberdena Veenstra.

Jim proudly served in the United States Army.  He was a dedicated farmer all his life. When he wasn’t farming, he was building. He became a licensed builder in 1972 and specialized in masonry work.  He was a member of the Banks Township Fire Department for 35 years and was involved in the Antrim County 4-H.  Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and hunting.

On October 28, 1966, he married Patsy Sitzema who survives. Also surviving are four children; Todd (Jill) Veenstra of Saranac, MI, Jill Veenstra of Belmont, ME, Jodi (Josh) Putman of Big Rapids, MI, Matthew Veenstra of ID, four grandchildren; Ethan (Morgan) Veenstra, Garret Veenstra, Alex Putman, James Veenstra, great grandson Hudson Veenstra, two sisters; Flora (Tom) Wynsma of Atwood, MI, Jennie Vanderkieft of Grand Rapids, MI, two brothers; Andrew (Arlene) Veenstra of Atwood, MI, Jacob Jr. (Jan) of Atwood, MI.

Proceeding Jim in death are his parents, sisters, Wilma, Gezina, Minnie, and brother Paul.

A visitation will be held at the Hastings Chapel in Ellsworth from 5pm until 7pm on Tuesday, February 8. A funeral service with military honors will take place at the Ellsworth Christian Reformed Church on Wednesday, February 9, at 11am, with Pastor Dave Kroon officiating.  A luncheon will follow.  Spring interment will take place in Atwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be given to  the Banks Township Fire Department or Ebenezer Christian School.
