Mildred Fratrick of Charlevoix, Grandma Millie traveled up to the heavens to meet her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 29th. Born Mildred Irene Ager, Easter Sunday, March 31, 1918, on Barnard Road in Charlevoix to William and Rose (Vosburg) Ager. She grew up and resided on Barnard most of her life, enjoying Sunday drives to see green pastures, deer, and appreciate the beauty the Good Lord delights us with. She married John J. Fratrick on April 30, 1938, and together they had four children. Mildred worked as a homemaker most of her life, cleaning cottages at The Chicago and Belvedere Clubs for many summers. She was a wonderful cook, making full course meals and spoiling her family with delicious cinnamon rolls and fried cakes (donuts). Summer gardens resulted in many hours of canning and freezing. God graced Millie with a green thumb, her African violets bloomed year round. She also grew beautiful flowers that often were displayed on the Remembrance Table in the church sanctuary on Sunday mornings. Mildred was a very special grandma and thankfully played a very instrumental role as caregiver in her granddaughter Rhonda’s life. She spent many hours studying her bible with family and friends always in her prayers. She was a delightful letter writer and wrote and received many letters that she truly enjoyed over the years. Mildred was proud of her relationship with Jesus Christ. She loved to praise the Lord in song, and strived to live her life as a Born Again Christian. She was a very generous person, willing to lend a helpful hand, always only a phone call away. She volunteered, baked and solicited pies for The Charlevoix Senior Center for many years. She also collected door to door for The American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Barnard United Methodist Women Group. Until last May, Mildred was at home, but after a fall resulting in a hip fracture and hospitalization, she resided at Grandvue in East Jordan. Mildred is survived by her children, Ronald, Carol, and John Wayne (Nancy Ferguson) all of Charlevoix; her granddaughter, Rhonda (Glen Thorman) and great granddaughters, Mikayla, Marnie, and Maggie in East Jordan; granddaughter, Cathie Plummer and great-granddaughters, Savannah and Brooklyn of Goodrich, Mich.; her sister, Evelyn Burman of Illinois; sister-in-law, Pauline Fratrick of Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Edward, husband John and brothers Carlton, Herbert, Kenneth and Keith. The family would like to send a special thank you out to the wonderful caring nurses, CENA and support staff who helped in taking care of Millie over the last year. Your compassion and care was so greatly appreciated! May God Bless you all! Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd from 6 till 8 pm at Winchester Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 4th at 11:00 am at The Barnard Methodist Church. Memorial contributions can be made to Grandvue Medical Care Facility or to Barnard Methodist Church.
