Michael Miller

Michael S. Miller, 67, of Torch Lake, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Munson Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. He was born October 31, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Roy A. and Edna M. (Stone) Miller. After graduating high school in South Lyon, MI, he went to Ford Management Training School, was employed by Ford Motor Company, spent time working as a police officer in South Lyon, and then became a farmer for a short period of time in Charlevoix, MI. In 1978, he opened KML, Inc. in Fort Wayne, IN. He continued to own and operate the business through 2005. On October 17, 1980, he married Bonnie Colligan of Grand Rapids, MI. He enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards, the outdoors, and discussing politics with everyone at every possible opportunity. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, his daughters Susan (Jack) Carlson of Dexter, MI, and Nancy (Greg) Ford of Rock Hill, SC, sons Daniel Rainey of Peoria,IL, Scott (Stephanie) Rainey of Albion, IN, and Jason (Stephanie) Rainey of Acworth, GA; sister Chris (Adam) Schuler of Elk Rapids, MI, grandchildren Amanda, Bridgette, Brandon, Stuart, Justin, Jarod, Megan, Trevor, and great grandchild Devin, two nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Spencer Stone Carlson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at one p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Rev. Paul Mills officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, April 7th from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from noon until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
