Michael F. Shananaquet Jr., 34, of Williamsburg, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017. He was born February 4, 1983 in Traverse City, the son of Michael F. and Shirley (Houser) Shananaquet. Mike loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, especially hunting, fishing, camping, mudding and various winter activities. Mike graduated in 2006 with degrees in science, automotive and carpentry. He was a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. In December of 2011 Mike changed his troubled life course and became a great leader. He was a parapro for college students and Den Leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He worked for both Turtle Creek Casino and Great Lakes Stainless Steel.

Mike is survived by his wife, Dawn Taylor of Williamsburg; children, Essence (Ess) of East Jordan, Logan of Traverse City, Mikenzey (Kz) of Williamsburg, Keegan (Spud) of Williamsburg; mother, Shirley Shananaquet of Traverse City; sisters, Shannon Rouch of Grawn, Brandy Shananaquet of Grawn, Katrika (Dave) DeMars of Thompsonville, Clara Shananaquet of Peshawbestown, Alicia (Robert) Emery of Williamsburg; brother, Misheka Floyd of Pewhawbestown; his lifelong friends (cousins) Marc Shananaquet and Carmen Sciuto along with many other close beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael F. Shananaquet Sr. in 2012 along with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wed. February 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Michigan Ball Room at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme with Pastor Christine Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening until 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday at his home, 3975 Pulverwoods (known as Hursh Road) Williamsburg, MI. The family will also hold a short service on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at his home.
