Michael Miller

Michael Dawson Miller, 71, of East Jordan, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Charlevoix Area Hospital. He was born June 8, 1944, in Petoskey to Lawrence Duane and Ann Dawson. He grew up in East Jordan graduating from East Jordan High School in 1962. Michael attended North Central Michigan College before entering the US Army during the Vietnam War. He flew helicopters on two tours of duty and was discharged as a Standardization Instruction Pilot. Following his tours in Vietnam, he served in the National Guard. He worked for Boyne USA, most recently as Head of Convention Services at The Inn of Bay Harbor. He attended the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix, and was a member of the Charlevoix Area Buffs Flying Club. On November 24, 1984, he married Alice L. Pletz at the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix. Michael is survived by his wife, Alice Pletz-Miller; son, Kevin Dawson Miller of Boulder, Colo.; grandsons, Dawson and Wyett; sister, Melissa Hite of Canton. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Miller; stepfather, Jay M. Hite; and mother, Ann Dawson Miller Hite Bisbee. Memorial service will be 2 pm, Saturday, September 12, at the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix, where visitation will begin at 1 pm. The Reverend Neil Wilson will officiate.
