Merle Baker Sr., 89, of Mancelona, passed away February 20, 2022, at the Eastport Village Care Home. He was born August 1, 1932, in Mancelona, the son of John and Lillian (Kiel) Baker.
On May 28, 1955 in Comstock Park, MI, he married Bertha. They would go on to have five kids together.
Merle was a truck driver for many years. After retiring from driving truck he spent a number of years driving bus for the ACT. Merle loved to hunt whitetail deer, morel mushrooms, and snowshoe rabbits. He enjoyed family time with his grandkids and picking blackberries. Merle served in the United States Army and was in the Korean War.
Surviving him in death is his wife Bertha, 5 children; Byron (Kathy) Baker of Illinois, Martin Baker of Mancelona, Merle (Sharon) Baker of Alba, Brenda Schlater of Eaton Rapids, David Baker of Alden. There are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who survive him in death.
Proceeding him in death are his parents, 4 brothers; Bill, Roger, Donnie, Jim, sister Bertha.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 26 at Noon at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes until the funeral service at 2pm. Yogi Jabarra will be officiating. Spring interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.
Memorial Donations can be made to the Antrim County Veterans Association.
