Melvin “Mel” Corel Porter, 72, of Bellaire passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. He was born on October 23, 1948 in Detroit, MI the son of Melvin and Martha (Pabis) Porter.
Mel attended Cass Tech and Mott Community College before beginning his successful sales career with Sony Electronics. On January 24, 1981, he married the love of his life, Elaine Rogers in Flint, MI. They moved several times over the course of the next 30 years as his job required before moving to Bellaire permanently in 2004.
Mel enjoyed taking fishing trips to Canada with Trout Lake Properties Inc. as well as deep sea fishing in Florida with his son. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, flying, and taking walks with his beloved dog, Max.
Mel is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Elaine Porter; his son, Drew Porter; his sister, Maryann Porter; and many nieces and nephews with whom he was very close and loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Martha Porter. Later, his father-in-law and mother-in-law; William “Bill” and Renee Rogers, and his brother-in-law; Michael Rogers each of whom he loved dearly and enjoyed many adventures with them.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21 at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 3:00.
