Melvin Dawson

Melvin E. Dawson, 78, of Bellaire, died Monday, November 17, 2008 at home. Melvin was born July 26, 1930 in Central Lake, the son of Edward and Grace (Ward) Dawson. In 1949, Melvin graduated from Central Lake High School. He joined and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Lamina Bronze in Bellaire for 39 years before retiring. On August 22, 1953, in Bellaire, he married Mardell Hierlihy who survives. Also surviving are 3 children William (Suzanne) of Bellaire, Susan (Mark) Valley of Bellaire, Kathleen (Mark) Kassuba of Tustin, brothers Virgil (Barbara) of Alma, Jerry (Connie) of Eastport, Roger of Las Vegas, and Leonard (Elaine) of Bellaire, 12 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Terry in 1997, and his brother Roy. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 20, at 2 p.m. at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 19th at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire.
