Melba Jean Crothers

Melba Jean Crothers 75 of Alden, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022 at home.  She was born September 17, 1946, in Mancelona the daughter of Leathel and Marion (Bowman) McCarty.

   Melba grew up in Mancelona and spent her life in the Alden area.  She worked for over 25 years at Sara Lee making pies and for many years at Sam’s Club doing food demonstrations. 

   Melba enjoyed golfing, gardening, and canning.  She also enjoyed camping and a good bonfire.  She especially loved spending time with her grandkids too.  Melba went on a cruise this spring with her family and absolutely loved it!   

   On February 27, 1965, she married James Allen Crothers who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents and her brother Larry McCarty and sister Joanne Thompson.      

   Left to cherish her memory are her children James Crothers Jr. of Mancelona, Jacquelyn (Bill) Siersma of Zeeland, Scott (Spring) Crothers of Alden, grandchildren Cassandra (Adrian) Ray, Molly Crothers, Taylor Siersma, Madison Crothers, Mackenzie Siersma, Robert Jeska, Austin Lambert, Kaitlyn Lambert, Cameryn Lambert, great grandchildren Bailey, Teagan, Emerson, Madeline, Xavier, brother Leathel (Jackie) McCarty, sister Nona (John Palulis) McCarty, brother in law Mike Thompson and many nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services will be held Monday, April 25^th at 1 p.m. at Pathway Community Church in Mancelona with Pastor Dan Grimes officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service also at the church.  Interment will be at Helena Township Cemetery, Alden.

   Memorial donations can be given to the Mancelona Moose Lodge.
