Maxine M. "Auntie Max" Wilks, 83, of Mancelona, passed away on September 14, 2016 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Max was born on December 28, 1932, in Mancelona, the daughter of Homer and Edith (Petersen) Wilks. Max was a lifelong resident of Mancelona where she was a longtime member of the Mancelona United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the church where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She was also the treasurer, and volunteered for many church activities. She loved her church family and was a devout Christian. Max was the manager at Dalquist Store in downtown Mancelona for many years. She enjoyed traveling throughout much of the southern states with her family and camping in the U.P. She was a woman of many talents who enjoyed canning, cooking, baking, and sewing. Her family will forever miss her homemade carmel corn, cinnamon rolls, and puppy chow. She is survived by two sister-in-laws, Barb Wilks of Mancelona, Mary Wilks (Glen) Alexander of Mancelona, nieces and nephews, Kim (Doyle) Pendock of Rapid City, Craig Sexton of Mancelona, Randy (Kelly) Sexton of Mancelona, Pamela (Dave) Ciganick of Bellaire, Christine Niepoth of Mancelona, Brent (Bobby Wagner) Wilks of Mancelona, Richard Wilks of Fla, Jeffrey Wilks of Muskegon, MI, great-nieces and nephews, Leah and John Pendock, Kristie and Matt Sexton, Mackenzie and Halle Ciganick, Chloe, Lexi Jean, and Luke Niepoth, and Brandon Wilks, and Amber Wilks. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Norm and Don Wilks, a sister Doris Sexton, cousins Jack and Betty Mitchell, a great-niece Ashley Sexton, and nephew Brian Wilks. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 17, 11:00 a.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Rev. Todd Shafer will officiate. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona. Visitation will be on Friday from 6-8 p.m. also at the funeral home.
