Maxine Smith

Maxine Whitney Smith,  74, of Eastport, passed away on July 29, 2018 at Munson Hospice House.

Max was born on October 22, 1943, in Ann Arbor, MI the daughter of Wallace and Maxine (Garnett) Whitney.

Max was a personable lady who loved hosting family and friends.  She could walk into a crowd of strangers and know them all by the time the conversation ended.

She had a love for music, especially singing and playing guitar.

On November 5, 1990, in Bellaire, she married John Smith Jr. who survives.  Also surviving are a daughter Susan (Fred) Davenport of Gainesville, VA, 2 granddaughters, Kiersten and Tristen Davenport of Gainesville, VA, 8 siblings, Diane Whitney Pardee of Eastport, Mary (John) Fink of New Hampshire, Susan Whitney, Jeanne Whitney, Hyler Whitney, Flora Whitney all of Traverse City, John (Colleen) Whitney of Walker, MI, and Rick Whitney also of Traverse City along with many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by a son Rick Gulley, two brothers, William Wallace Whitney Jr., William Wallace Whitney III as well as her parents.

A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Township.
