Maxine Plumm, 89, of Charlevoix, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Charlevoix Area Hospital. She was born July 5, 1926, in Charlevoix to Colin and Olive (Lord) McKenzie. Maxine attended Saint Mary's School through the eighth grade and graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1944. She attended Western Michigan University for one year, then worked at Charlevoix Hospital as a nurse's aide until she was married.
On September 13, 1947, Maxine married George Plumm. She stayed home to raise their children, Jayne and Patrick. Maxine thoroughly enjoyed sports of all kinds, playing cards, and especially her pet dogs. In later years, she enjoyed being a caregiver to elderly people in their homes.
Maxine was a member of Saint Mary's Church, Saint Mary's Rosary Altar Society, and the American Legion, Leslie T. Shapton Post Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Jayne (Gary) Almonrode, of Nashville, Tenn.; son, Patrick Plumm, of Houston, Texas; five grand-children, Tricia, Fred, George, Forrest, and Elsa; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty McKenzie, Wanda Plumm.
She was preceded in death by her husband George in 2011; brothers, Louis and Donald and sister, Jane.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Tuesday, March 1, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Funeral mass will be 11:30 am, Wednesday, March 2, at Saint Mary's Church in Charlevoix, the Reverend Matthew Wigton officiating. Cremation will follow and interment will be in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Charlevoix.
Memorials may be made as a Mass offering or to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.
