Maxine Ouvry

Maxine Y. Ouvry, 85, of Mancelona, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. Max was born on October 4, 1925 in Coldsprings Township, the daughter of George and Mamie (Schriener) Wardell. On August 14, 1948 she married Roger Ouvry, who preceded her in death in 1995. Max graduated from Mancelona High School in 1943. She worked as a secretary for Mt. Clemens Metal Production from 1947 until 1963, and then worked at the Mancelona Village as the clerk from 1979 until retirement in 1992. She was a past charter member and secretary of the Mancelona Rotary Club. She was a member and financial secretary of Mancelona United Methodist Church. She was a sports enthusiast and was an animal lover. Max helped organize the first sports booster club of Mancelona High School in the mid 50s and was an active member for many years. She played first base for the ladies softball team, the Mancy Chicks, in the 50s and 60s. She coached girls Little League softball for several years. Max was a long time golfer; and was a member of the Centennial Farm Golf Club and the "Lady Duffers" golf league. She is survived by her daughter, Kim (Jim) Hines and two grandsons, Trey and Brett Hines all of Traverse City, MI; sister Mabel (Charles) Dickinson of Kingsley, MI; her sister in law and life long friend, Charlotte and brother in law George Ouvry, brother and sister in law Raymond and Linda Ouvry and many nieces and nephews and her little canine pal, Baylee. She will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Ouvry; parents; three sisters, Clara, Beatrice and Tessie. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Mancelona United Methodist Church with Pastor Todd Shafer officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
