Matthew P Welch

Matthew Welch, 63, of Traverse City. Michigan passed away on Friday, August 30 2024 from heart failure. Matt was born to Forrest and Audrey (Ritt) Welch on April 6, 1961 in Saginaw, Michigan. He is survived by his brother, Forrest (Bud) Welch and sisters Susan Dutcher and Donna LaGosh, and his many nieces and nephews: Alex, Meredith, Jason, Scott, Jessica, and Max.

 Matt had a deep love of the outdoors and loved spending time at the family home in Bellaire and the surrounding region as a child and young adult. After high school, Matt moved to Traverse City and never looked back! He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with the many friends he made over the years in the new city he called home. He also enjoyed gardening and absolutely loved to travel. His adventures took him to many cities and countries across the globe. He did not fail to come back with interesting stories, which he shared widely with family and friends! Many family holidays included tales of his travels, all told with wit and a sense for the dramatic! He enjoyed sharing with his family and was proud of their many accomplishments.

Matt took great pride in his work accomplishments and spoke often of the friends and colleagues he met during his long tenure at Traverse Outdoor. His work ethic and the client relationships he built over the years were a testament to how much he valued his role. 

Visitation and funeral services will be held at Mortensen's Funeral Home, 106 S. Bridge Street, Bellaire MI. The visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m., on Friday, September 6th, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Matt's name can be made to the Alliance for the Great Lakes (greatlakes.org) or the Arbor Day Foundation (arborday.org).
