Mary Ann "Lucy" DeWitt, 86, of Alden, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Eastport Village Care Home. Lucy was born May 20, 1924 in Alden, MI the daughter of Charles and Louisa (Breece) Smith. She was a member of the Alden United Methodist Church and was the organist for 32 years. She also served as organist at the Central Lake UMC. She retired from Michigan Bell Telephone in 1978 and was a longtime member of the Elk Rapids Eastern Star Chapter 326 where she was a past Worthy Matron. She is survived by three children, Doris (Bruce) Griffin of Wyoming, MI., William "Guy" (Shirley) DeWitt of Bellaire, MI., and Kathleen (Dave) Chandler of Grand Ledge, MI; one step daughter, Gloria Ranger of Florida; nine grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, two sisters, Hazel Dickson and Viola Merkle both of Alden, MI; a sister-in-law Sophie DeWitt of Alden; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband William "Bill" DeWitt; parents; six brothers; a sister; and a step-daughter, Patty Lockard. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 10, 2011, at 3 p.m. at Alden United Methodist Church with Dr. Steven C. Packer officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
