Mary Smith

Mary A. Smith,  80, of Central Lake, passed away on November 24, 2017 at her home.

Mary was born on January 16, 1937, in Coopersville, MI, the daughter of Fredrick and Marion (Hoban) Peck.

Mary was a Sawyer, MI resident for many years where she worked for Dr. Debra Mannia.  Following retirement, she and her husband Larry moved to Central Lake to make their permanent home.  While living in Central Lake, she was an active member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire where she served on the Altar Society.

She was a very giving person and always volunteered to help anyone in need.  She enjoyed walking, gardening and mostly spending time with her grandchildren.

On November 7, 1959, in Coopersville, MI, she married Lawrence Smith who survives.  Also surviving are a daughter Sherry (Randy) Hildebrandt of Sawyer, MI, a son Shawn Smith of Bridgman, MI, three grandchildren, Justin and Amanda Hildebrandt, Jake Smith, a brother, David (Mary) Peck of Walker, MI, three sisters, JoAnn (James) Becker of Conklin, MI, Jean Klein of Sparta, MI, Betty (Vince) Brown of Conklin, MI, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, December 2,  at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church  in Bellaire.  There will also be a funeral mass on Monday, December 4, at Noon, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marne, with the family receiving friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service.  Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery in Marne.

Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice.
