Martha King

Martha Elizabeth King passed away on April 19, 2013, after battling MS and its many complications for more than 20 years. Martha, who was born in Flint in 1955 to Jack and June King, lived life as independently and as fully as her illness would allow. She was raised in Flint, where she graduated from Powers Catholic High School and worked at the Pierson Road Meijer's. Martha especially cherished her summers on Old Mission at the family cottage. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Tom and his wife Linda. She leaves behind her sisters and brothers, Judy King, John and Betsy King, Jim and Rose King, Katy and Lax Vessels; nieces and nephews, Jack, Juliette, Frank, Mike, Megan, and Jimmy King, Brande and Mark Schiller, Paul and Karen Vessels, Kendra Worthington and David Schiller; great-niece and nephew Maizie and Ben Schiller; uncle Bernard and wife Celeste Irving; aunt Noleta Dewsbury; uncle Clark King , and many cousins and friends. She also leaves behind her second family, the many caretakers and staff at Grand Traverse Pavilions who helped her sustain a comfortable and enriched life during her 13 years there. Martha remained positive and cheerful, interacting with her loved ones through her last days. Martha's funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church on Old Mission Peninsula, Saturday, May 11, at 1 pm. The family will greet visitors at the church from 11:30 until the time of mass. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Father Fred Foundation, P.O. Box 2260, Traverse City, MI 49685. Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
