MARTHA "ALMA" COREY 80, of Rapid City, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Care Center. She suffered a long illness but passed quietly in her sleep with her family at her side. She was born Feb. 17, 1927 in Sault Ste. Marie, the only child of Thomas and Martha (Duncan) Butler. On January 3, 1948 she married Gerald D. Corey, her husband of 59 years. They have two children, Patricia (Ron) Sober of Sault Ste. Marie, Paul (Coleen) Corey of Alden, three grandchildren, R.D. (Amber) Sober of Mt. Pleasant, Corey Sober of Sault Ste. Marie, and Nicholas Corey of Alden. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 364, Newberry. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids, where she served as a Deacon for many years and was secretary of the Martha Circle. They were responsible for making over 200 Afghans for Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility where Alma was awarded Volunteer of the Year. She attended Cleary College in Ypsilanti and retired from the City of Mason as an assistant Treasurer. She enjoyed Knitting, gardening, reading, laughing with her family and friends and attending many of her grandchildren's ballgames. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at Eleven a.m. at the Elk Rapids First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Daniel K. Herlein officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Clearwater Twp. Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
