Marlene Kewagshken

Marlene Ann Kewagshken, 36, of Charlevoix, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, in Peshawbestown. She was born November 27, 1978, in Chicago, and graduated from Charlevoix High School. Marlene attended cosmetology school in Traverse City. Recently, she has been working at The Ridge Microbrewery and Restaurant in Peshawbestown.

Marlene was interested, involved in and loved her native culture. She was a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.

She is survived by her son, Anthony Kewagshken; mother and father, Anna Marie Kewagshken and Gary Smith all of Charlevoix; brothers and sisters, April Cross of Mt. Pleasant, James Kewagshken of Charlevoix, Linda Smith of Las Vegas, Nev., Kimberly Smith of Charlevoix, Justin Brown of Maryland, Gary Riser of North Dakota; her significant other, Rik Yannott of Peshawbestown; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Betty Kewagshken.

Funeral will be 2 pm, Wednesday, August 5, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, where visitation will begin at 1 pm. The Reverend Sam McClellen will officiate.

A Sacred Fire will burn until the day of the funeral at the home of Lori McSawby.
