Marilyn Ruth Peterson, 92 of Williamsburg and formerly of Elk Rapids, died peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2023. She was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Saginaw, the daughter of Grant and Vesta (Harris) Hess.
Marilyn grew up in St. Louis, MI, and graduated in 1949 from St. Louis High School. She was a dedicated student and majored in English Education graduating from Michigan State College (University) in 1953. While at MSU she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.
She shared her knowledge and love of education teaching Language Arts and Social Studies in Merrill, Grand Ledge, and East Lansing. Currently Marilyn is a member of P.E.O. and most recently as a member of EB chapter, Elk Rapids.
Jack D. Peterson came into her life in March 1953. They were married on Jan. 9, 1954, in St. Louis. They enjoyed many adventures together including traveling across the country and out of the country too. They also spent over 20 winters at their home in Alabama. The most joy they experienced were the 45 wonderful years of cottage life on Torch Lake.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 69 years Jack, her sons Jon G. (Colleen) Peterson of Manistee, Hans E. Peterson of Red River, NM, granddaughter Amy Peterson, and 3 great grandchildren Kaya, Christian, and David. She was preceded in death by her sister JoAnne Gould.
A memorial service will be held Monday, April 17, at 12 noon at Grace Lutheran Church, Elk Rapids, with Pastor James Redmann officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial Contributions can be given to Grace Lutheran Church, 16194 Wanigan Dr, Elk Rapids, MI 49629.
