Marguerite May Smith, age 105, died December 23, 2010 at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, MI. She was born on February 28, 1905, in Bellaire, Michigan to Charles E. May and Margaret Marshall May, the 4th of 5 children. Two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Wayne P. Smith. She is survived by her son, Craig (Carole), her grandsons Brent (Shellie) of Ada, and Scott (Kolleen) of Midland, and grandchildren Loren, Derek, Connor, and Quinn as well as many nieces and nephews. Marguerite was a graduate of the University of Michigan and a teacher in the public schools of Michigan for many years, 23 of those years in Ann Arbor. Music was always of great interest to her. She was a soloist in many different churches, sang in many choirs, and was an enthusiastic spectator of all concerts. Marguerite's husband Wayne was also a teacher and coached many sports. Marguerite enjoyed attending all sporting events. They were season ticket holders for University of Michigan football games for many years and she continued her love of Michigan football throughout her life, always looking for someone to watch the game with her. Marguerite was a member of the League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women, and Three Lakes Association. Much of her later days were spent at Riverside Retirement Place in Midland where she enjoyed the companionship of many friends and the fellow members of a poetry group. She spent the last few years of her life in the wonderful care of the staff at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, MI. Her internment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire, Michigan. A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2011 in Bellaire, where her fondest memories were created.
