Marcella Ann Murdick

Marcella Ann Murdick (Marci), 93, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Boulder Park Terrace in Charlevoix, Michigan.  She was born Marcella Ann Hanselman on February 07, 1930 in Cannelton, Indiana to Henry and Floretta Hanselman.  Her family moved to Detroit, Michigan when she was young and she graduated in 1948 from St. Ambrose High School in Grosse Pointe Park. 

Marci married Francis G. Murdick at St. Ambrose Church on July 04, 1952.    They raised eight children.  They lived in Detroit until they made their home in Charlevoix in 1964.  Marci worked for the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Department in communications and as a corrections officer from 1976 until she retired in 1992. 

Marci was a devout Catholic; her faith was her rock that brought her comfort throughout her life.  She was generous to a fault; opening her home to anyone in need of a place to stay.  Because of her kind and loving nature, she was known to many as “Mama Marci”.  She also maintained close friendships with many, many people throughout her life.  Barb Timms, Nadine Penny, Dusanka Morissette, Mary Novotny, Caron Rogers, Lucille Allard, Marilyn Rizzo, Marge Smith, Ginger Russell, and so many others called Marci a dear friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, Lucille Myers, and Virginia Anderson, her husband, Francis Murdick, her son, Joseph Murdick, her son-in-law, Leon Perron, and her granddaughter, Kristi Brewer.  She is survived by her children, John (Marcia) Murdick, Celeste (Murdick) Perron, Karen Murdick, Kathy Murdick, Jerry (Carol) Murdick, Julie Murdick, and Rebecca Murdick. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. 

There will be a visitation in the rear of St. Mary’s Church, Charlevoix, at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 24, 2023.  Mass will be at noon with a luncheon in the Parish Hall at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers a donation in Marci’s memory may be made to the Charlevoix County Humane Society, 614 Beardsley St. Boyne City, MI  49712.
