MABLE L. WATKINS, 85, of Central Lake, died on January 21, 2012 at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Mable was born on October 27, 1926, in Central Lake, the daughter of Clarence "Sid" and Martha (DeForest) Patton. Mable was a lifelong resident of Central Lake and was employed by Bachmann's Store, Shanty Creek and was a waitress at Helen's CafAC. in Central Lake. She enjoyed painting, quilting, crocheting, baking and flower gardening, square dancing and morel mushroom hunting. On October 26, 1946, in Central Lake, she married Hugh Watkins who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter Debra Watkins, a brothers, Dick Patton, Jack Patton, sisters, Waneta Wilks, Agnes Asquith, Shirley Warner, She is survived by two daughters, Louann (Dennis) Murray of Roseville, Retha (Michael) Shea of Traverse City, a brother David (Maureen) Patton of Central Lake, three sisters, Vera Gordon of Central Lake, Wanda (Bub) Wolgamott of Central Lake, Mary Lort of Mesa, AZ., 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Grand Traverse Pavilions, Hospice of Michigan or to the Alzheimer's Association. Interment will take place in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Township. The family wishes to give a special thanks to all of the nurses and attendants on the Elm Wing of Grand Traverse Pavilions for the special care given to Mable over the years.
