Loyal Cobb

Loyal Maynard Cobb passed away peacefully on December 21, 2017 at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, MI after a short illness.

Loyal was born in Hinkley, IL on November 19, 1926 to Clarence and Bernice Cobb. Loyal was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carol (Cobb) Last of Kenosha, WI. He leaves his wife of 71 years, Leone Cobb, his son Gary Cobb, daughter Wendy (Cobb) Baumgartner, four granddaughters and two great grandchildren.

Loyal graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Fort McCoy, WI. He met the love of his life, Leone at a USO dance in Chicago and they were married on July 5, 1946. Shortly after, they moved to Muskegon, MI where he was hired by Norge Division as a draftsman and attended Muskegon School of Business. In 1952 he was hired by Kaydon Engineering as a Design Engineer and during his employment with them designed one of the largest tool and die lathes existing at that time. In 1972 he moved to Elk Rapids, MI with his wife Leone and daughter. He started his own industrial machine and tool brokerage business which continued until retirement.

Loyal was very active in the community - Rotary, served on Village council, elder at the First Presbyterian Church and active in the Amvets. He loved to hunt and fish, build furniture but what he enjoyed the most was sitting on the deck with family and friends watching the grandchildren and their friend’s swim, waterski and sail.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff at Meadowbrook for all their loving care.  In lieu of flowers, Loyal would be honored to have memorial contributions made in his name to the Amvets Post #114, P.O. Box 144, Elk Rapids, MI.
49629.

A celebration of life at the Amvets in Elk Rapids is being planned in the spring.  Arrangements have been handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Please sign his online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
