Louis Kube

LOUIS M. KUBE, 93, of Traverse City, died on August 5, 2009 at the Munson Hospice House.

Louis was a teacher at the Hardy School in Kalkaska County after graduating from Antrim County Normal. He was a chemist at Antrim Iron Company for a number of years, and a Standard Oil agent serving Mancelona, Alba and Elmira for 17 years. He retired from Steel Tank and Fabricating Company, which he owned, in Mancelona.

He was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge #375, past president of the Mancelona Rotary Club, Charter President of the Mancelona Lions Club, a member of the Traverse City Benevolent and Protective order of Elks, a member of the Elk Rapids Sportsman's Club, past President of the Grand Traverse Area Sportfishing Association, a member of the Moose Lodge #1585 in Big Pine Key, Fla., President of the Village of Mancelona, and participated in many community projects.

He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, especially enjoying fishing and hunting.

He lived in Mancelona from 1915-1970, moving then to East Bay, and later to Traverse City in 1995 until the time of his death.

He was born in Mancelona on October 21, 1915 to Paul and Minnie (Richards) Kube. On June 25, 1936 he married the former Mildred L. Bedell of Bellaire, MI. who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his second wife LaDore Ray, his parents, a daughter Joyce Ellsworth, two grandchildren, Gordon L. Kube, Jr., Patrick L. Ellsworth, a sister Allison Boelio and a brother Wayne Kube.

Louis is survived by two sons, Dr. William J. (Rachel) Kube of Gobles, Gordon L. (Janet) of Traverse City, two daughters, Nancy (Jeffrey) Sodini of Flushing, Katherine (Richard) Hunt of Commerce, GA., 13 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, August 11, at Eleven a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids with the Rev. Sandra K. Murray officiating. Visitation will take place from ten a.m. until the time of services.

A Masonic service will take place immediately following the memorial service at the church.

Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.
